The Ottawa Catholic School Board invites applications from candidates interested in being considered for the International and Indigenous Languages (Elementary) Program Continuing Education instructor positions and supply instructor positions, which are available during the summer program.

The summer program runs from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, July 3 to August 2, 2024. Classes will be offered in-person or virtually. The in-person program is subject to change depending on directions from Ottawa Public Health or other factors at the School Board.

Sites and Languages for in-person classes:

  • Our Lady of Wisdom, 1565 St., Georges Street, Ottawa - Spanish
  • St. Benedict, 3490 Cambrian Rd., Barrhaven - Mandarin (Simplified)
  • St. Elizabeth School, 1366 Coldrey Avenue, Ottawa - Italian, Portuguese
  • St. Gabriel, 400 Keyrock Dr., Kanata North - Mandarin (Simplified)
Languages for virtual classes:
  • Virtual Summer morning classes (9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.): - Igbo, Yoruba
Required Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must have knowledge of and fluency of the language (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing);
  • Knowledgeable about the culture, history and traditions and be able to integrate them into classroom activities appropriate to the age group;
  • Comfortable teaching online, in a classroom or a combination of both methods. OCSB will provide some training, support and mentoring.
In addition, the following will be considered an asset:
  • Previous experience working with children and/or youth;
  • Good computer skills (Google Apps, Microsoft Office).
Compensation :
  • Instructors - $23 ($29.50 if OCT certified) per hour plus 4% vacation pay
  • Supply Instructors - $23 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
