Job description:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for a team of maintenance staff and overseeing the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repair of school facilities and grounds, ensuring buildings are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with regulatory standards.  The supervisor also manages contractors, ensuring work is completed to high standards and supports a clean, functional learning environment.  This is a temporary position until approximately July 24, 2026.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead and supervise a multi-disciplinary team, including carpenters, small engine mechanics, HVAC technicians, electricians, and plumbers
  • Assign and monitor tasks, tracking workloads and performance to ensure high-quality workmanship and efficiency
  • Provide mentorship, training, and formal performance evaluations for all Maintenance Trades staff
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency maintenance issues, assessing severity and mobilizing responses immediately
  • Ensure all board facilities comply with safety regulations, particularly during critical incidents
  • Support school administrators and principals by providing timely, effective solutions to facility concerns
  • Prioritize work orders within the Facility Management System (FMS), distributing tasks based on urgency and trade expertise
  • Utilize FMS data to identify trends, track progress, and generate operational reports.
  • Manage and maintain the board’s vehicle fleet, ensuring all units meet licensing and safety standards
  • Develop technical documents, including scopes of work, tenders (ITT), and Requests for Standing Offers (RFSO)
  • Manage contractor relationships, from site walk-throughs and bidding to monitoring compliance and final quality inspections
  • Oversee budgets by approving low-value purchases, reviewing invoices, and managing maintenance supply requests
  • Lead small school renewal and conditioning projects, ensuring completion on time and within budget
  • Monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS) and electronic controls to optimize energy efficiency and mechanical performance
  • Assist in the development of preventative maintenance plans and annual budget preparation
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed a minimum 2 years post secondary education in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities or Property Management, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in facilities management, maintenance, or construction operations
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Experience in the supervision of staff, including task delegation, performance monitoring, and training
  • Experience managing contractors and external service providers
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and regulations applicable to facility operations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to be on-call for emergency situations and coordinate urgent responses as needed.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience managing budgets
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google-based applications, including Gmail and Shared Drives
  • Possess a valid drivers license
  • Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered

This is a temporary full-time position with an annual salary range of $95,098 - $103,153 which will be prorated to the duration of the assignment.  The start date of the assignment is as soon as possible with an anticipated end date of July 24, 2026.  Please note that AI may be utilized throughout the application and selection process.
